SM Supermalls and PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group Forge Strong Partnership to Promote Cybersecurity Awareness Nationwide
In a landmark move to strengthen public awareness on online safety, SM Supermalls and the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) have officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the SM Supermalls Headquarters Boardroom in MOA Square, Pasay City. The collaboration emphasizes the growing need for cybersecurity awareness in the Philippines, especially as more Filipinos engage in digital transactions, social media, and online services daily.
Strengthening Cybersecurity Awareness for Every Filipino
The MOA signing was led by SM Supermalls executives and PNP officials, including Karen C. Zabaljauregui, Senior Assistant Vice President for SM Lifestyle, Inc.; Engr. Junias M. Eusebio, Vice President for Operations of SM Supermalls; PBGen. Matthew P. Baccay, PNP Acting Director for Investigation and Detention Management; and PBGen. Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director for PNP-ACG.
Through this partnership, SM Supermalls and SM Cinemas will provide free airtime for PNP-ACG’s educational campaigns. These videos will be played nationwide across SM Cinema screens and mall LED displays, reaching millions of mallgoers every day. The campaigns aim to educate Filipinos about the risks of cybercrime, promote responsible digital habits, and encourage active community participation in online safety initiatives.
Cybersecurity on the Big Screen
During the launch, the PNP-ACG unveiled its new cybersecurity awareness video, which will roll out nationwide in the coming weeks. By leveraging SM’s wide network of malls and cinemas, the campaign ensures that messages on cybercrime prevention reach diverse audiences—from students and families to professionals and business owners.
The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, tasked with preventing and investigating cybercrimes in the country, emphasized that online threats continue to evolve. From phishing and identity theft to online scams and hacking, cybercrimes pose risks to both individuals and businesses. Thus, public education is a crucial defense.
A United Stand Against Online Threats
“SM Supermalls is more than just a hub for shopping, leisure, and community gatherings. We are also a partner in ensuring the safety and well-being of millions of Filipinos who visit our malls and live their lives online,” said Engr. Junias M. Eusebio, Vice President for Operations of SM Supermalls.
He added that the partnership with the PNP-ACG is an extension of SM’s mission to create safe spaces not only in physical malls but also in the digital environment, where Filipinos increasingly spend their time.
Meanwhile, PBGen. Bernard R. Yang highlighted that fighting cybercrime requires both law enforcement expertiseand community cooperation. With partners like SM, public engagement is amplified, making nationwide awareness possible.
Beyond Shopping: SM as a Partner in Public Service
This initiative is part of SM Supermalls’ broader advocacy in supporting government services and protecting public welfare. For decades, SM has worked closely with government agencies to bring essential services closer to communities. Through its Government Service Express (GSE) hubs, SM malls host key government offices, offering services such as ID applications, permits, registrations, and renewals—making public service more accessible, convenient, and secure.
Now, with this partnership with the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, SM reinforces its role as not just a retail leader but also a champion of digital safety and community empowerment.
Why Cybersecurity Matters Today
In today’s digital-first world, cybersecurity awareness is more critical than ever. As Filipinos embrace online banking, e-commerce, and social networking, they also face increasing exposure to scams, fraud, and identity theft. Partnerships like this one between SM Supermalls and PNP-ACG show how the private sector and government can work hand-in-handto safeguard citizens against digital threats.
